CaptureThe 28th La Touche Legacy & 3rd Festival of History Programme has been announced.  It is to be held on the weekend of September 23rd to September 25th in its new venue of Greystones Golf Club.Chairman of the La Touche Legacy George Jones said “they were delighted once more to be running this great weekend in association with the Greystones Archaeological and Historical Society.

The Chairperson of the GAHS Ms Rosemary Raughter said “the theme of this year’s event “Emerging Ireland Post 1916” was very appropriate as we conclude our celebrations of the 1916 Rising” In addition to the many lectures over the weekend the opening session will include an Exhibition by St Laurence’s students on Dr James Ryan former founder and Minister  in various Fianna Fail governments as well as being a resident of Greystones also included in the opening session on Friday 23rd September is an introduction to Genealogy by our own local expert Ms Catherine Wright.
Heading up a very distinguished panel of speakers is one of Ireland’s leading Historians Professor Ronan Fanning of UCD who speak on the subject “Michael Collins and the strange circumstances of Eamon De Valera’s arrest in Greystones station on the 17th May 1918” on Saturday 24th September. Professor Fanning will be joined by Mr Sean Boyne speaking on Emmet Dalton including his major involvement in foundation of the film industry and Ardmore Studios along with his role as Somme Soldier and Irish General. Dr Mary McAuliffe will speak on the title of ‘Full and Equal Citizenship? Women and the Irish Free State, 1922-1937’ Dr Owen McGee will speak on ‘Arthur Griffith’ with Ms Sinead McCoole giving a lecture on ‘The Face of Ireland -Hazel, Lady Lavery’ The concluding day Sunday 25th September will feature the Jim Brennan Memorial Lecture given by our friend Mr Chris Corlett on ‘The 18th century headstones of County Wicklow’ The Seminar dinner will take place on Saturday 24th at 8pm, George Jones said “we are delighted to keep the costs down for the local community and tickets for all the lectures and seminar dinner are available from Kay at 2878448, myself 2875678 or www.greystonesads.org
