Details were this week released of the upcoming 6th Festival of History and 31st La Touche Legacy Seminar, this event run by La Touche Legacy Committee in association with Greystones Archaeological and Historical Society and held each year in the Greystones Golf Club.
This year’s weekend takes place on Friday 13th -Saturday 14th September with the theme “Ireland Through the Turbulent 30s”
The Chairman of the La Touche Legacy George Jones said “since we have moved onto the 30s it is only natural Eamon DeValera who was the dominant figure having come to power in the 1930s would be centre stage of this year’s seminar, with David McCullagh of RTE Prime Time returning with his second instalment of ‘DeValera Rule 1932-1975’ . Other speaker will be announced very shortly.
Chairperson of GAHS Rosemary Raughter commented “in addition to both of these lectures like all Festival of History weekends there are many other interesting talks on the Friday & Saturday including the Jim Brennan Memorial Lecture on Saturday by Dr Margaret Ward giving her views on “Hanna Sheehy Skeffington” and Bray born Professor Ferghal McGarry now working in Queen’s University , Belfast will give his views on ‘Ireland’s View of Fascism & Communism ‘
The weekend lectures will be rounded off with John Dorney Historian talk on ‘Franco’s Irish Volunteers’ and Dr. Claire McGing of NUI Maynooth on ‘Widows and Daughters in Dail Eireann’ The seminar dinner will take place on Saturday night at 8pm in Greystones Golf Club.
